Officers and firefighters spent part of Thursday afternoon searching in the county for a man who reportedly suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. In the end, the man was located after he returned home, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman said.
The 67-year-old man was unharmed, according to Capt. Andy Dedeke with the Sheriff’s Office.
The man was discovered missing around 1 p.m. Thursday in what Dedeke described as the 24000 block of 172nd Street. It is believed the man left his residence on foot at some point.
Members of the Sheriff’s Office and Leavenworth County Fire District No. 1 began looking for him. Dedeke said authorities searched about 30 minutes before it was discovered the man had returned to his residence.
Dedeke said authorities did not get to the point of issuing a Silver Alert, which is used to help find missing people who are 65 years or older or suffering from dementia.
