  • For some teams, the hardest win is the first one.
For the Lansing girls’ bowling team, the first victory seemed the easiest. Opening its season Wednesday at Mill Valley with Shawnee Heights and St. James Academy, the Lady Lions took first overall.
“Our girls’ squad dominated the meet, taking the team overall finish by 92 pins,” Lansing coach Ed Fenton said. “Dallas Castillo had the high game of the meet for the girls and boys by throwing a 246 in her first game.”
Behind her 246 performance, Castillo placed second overall individually, followed by Lansing’s Katelyn Tollefson in third and Rachel Forbach in fourth.
The boys’ squad placed second overall on the day. The Lions top placer was Bryan Courtney, who tied for third.
“We had a good night at our first meet of the season,” Fenton said. “All the hard work our athletes have put in to get ready for the season is paying off. Both squads did struggle a little early on trying to adjust to the lane conditions, but this should become an easier adjustment the more we compete.”
Lansing will compete next at Olathe East at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
