Five people were taken to the hospital following a collision Saturday on U.S. 24-40 in Tonganoxie, according to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The accident was reported at 2:32 p.m. west of Northstar Drive.
A 62-year-old Tonganoxie man was driving east on U.S. 24-40 in a 2001 Mercury sport utility vehicle. The vehicle crossed the center of the roadway and struck an eastbound 2003 Chevrolet van on the driver's side. This caused the van to go into a ditch and overturn, according to the report.
The van was from the Nickerson school district in Reno County.
The van's driver, a 39-year-old Hutchison woman, and four of her passengers, three 15-year-old boys and a 14-year-old girl, were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries. Another passenger, a 17-year-old boy, had what was described as a possible injury but was not transported, according to the report.
All of the occupants of the van had been wearing seat belts.
The driver of the SUV also may have been injured, but he was not transported to the hospital. He also had been wearing a seat belt, according to the report.
