  • An experienced Pleasant Ridge wrestling team took care of its youthful rival Immaculata Tuesday.
The script was the same as Monday’s basketball game, wherein an inexperienced Ridge boys’ team lost to the Raiders’ more experienced group.
Yet on the wrestling mat Tuesday, the script was flipped and the more seasoned PR squad defeated Imac 47-21.
To begin Tuesday, PR won three of its five matches versus Imac, though Rams’ head coach Darren Weber chose to have his grapplers wrestle up a weight class.
“We like to put our guys into some adversity and have them try some things so they can know how to do them when they really need to,” Weber said.
Jared Johnson, ranked No. 1 in Class 3-2-1 at 170 pounds, extended his undefeated season mark by earning a tech fall against Immaculata’s Dakota Fricke.
Johnson is now 23-0 and 132-13 in his high school career. With the state tournament less than a month away, the senior is confident he’ll take the competition by storm.
“I think I’m going to win it, no question about it,” Johnson said. “I’ve just got to do what I do best.”
    In the other PR-Imac matches:
Ridge’s Blake Graham pinned Imac’s Cory Holcomb at 138
Ram Ethan Payeur beat Sam Linder by pin at 160
Immaculata’s Max Campbell beat Nick Hyde by a 7-2 decision at 145
Raider Bruce Stanley defeated Blake Hadley by pin at 152
Horton was also part of the meet, albeit with a squad that had many weight class openings.
Pleasant Ridge’s Clayton Gum (106), who had an open against Imac, beat Horton’s Kristian Costa by a pin in the second round. Hadley lost to Horton’s Daniel Ferguson by pin in the first round.
    The Rams defeated Horton 54-30.
Pleasant Ridge will next wrestle at the Holton Tournament Friday starting at 5:30 p.m.
Immaculata will take the mat against Bishop Ward Jan. 25 at 5:30 p.m.
