On a night when the Pleasant Ridge girls’ basketball team weren’t on their A-game, they almost pulled a win out of the hat. Almost.
PR battled back from being down nine points for most of the game to tie it up late at 52.
But they couldn’t hold momentum, and ended up taking a 58-56 loss to Chapman in the Royal Valley Tournament.
“We had chances to take the lead but didn’t execute. Just poor execution all night. We simply did not come to play,” PR coach Mike Koontz said.
Despite the overall lacking performance, all three of PR’s top scorers reached double digits. Beth Doty led the way with 14 points, followed by Ashten Langley with 12 and Kelsey Carpenter with 10.
The Rams, 7-3, are 0-2 in the Royal Valley Tournament and will wrap up the competition with a noon tip today against Wabaunsee.
“They are going to have to find a way to dig themselves out of this rut,” Koontz said.
“If they are going to be a good team instead of an average team, they have to find a way to lift themselves up.”
