  • Robert Lee "Bob" Hill, 90, died a peaceful death on January 19, 2013 at Hillview Nursing Home in Platte City, MO. Bob was born December 14, 1922 in Weston, MO the son of Russell Hill Sr. and Minnie Searcy Hill. He graduated from West Platte High School in 1942 and was a proud member of the 1941 unbeaten, untied, unscored upon football team. He married Ella Augusta Hoyt on March 17, 1951 in Easton, KS. Bob is survived by his daughter, Julene Jennings (Jack), Leavenworth, KS, and sons Terry Hill (Linda) and Rick Hill (Cindy), both of Beverly, MO, grandchildren Jason Hill (Melissa), Justin Hill (Whitney), Jared Hill and fiancée Hayley Crawford, Robert Hill, Riley Hill, Kecia Jennings, and Broc Jennings, Great-granddaughter Clara Marie Hill, and a special niece, Samantha Jo Baker. Also surviving are two sisters, Della Mae Porter of Farley, MO, Nida Jewell Campbell of Whiteville, TN, two brothers, Clyde Ray Hill of Beverly, and Raymond Hill of Alamogordo, NM, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ella, sister Dorothy Louise Thomas, brother Russell Hill, Jr., step-brother Elwood (Woody) Reynolds and step-sister, Mary Jesse Cloud. Bob was extremely proud to be a WWII Marine Corps veteran, enlisting on April 20, 1943, and being honorably discharged from Camp Lejeune, NC on February 14, 1946. He participated with the 3rd Marine Division of the Fifth Amphibious Corps in the conquest of Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands. Upon returning to Platte County, Bob raised tobacco, and was a bulldozer operator, working with Bill Hill, the Edwards Brothers, Allen Atkins and then self- employed doing what he loved, pushing dirt. Bob was Scoutmaster of Weston Boy Scout Troop 249 for many years, and especially proud of his sons and 5 grandsons, all obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a member of the Platte County steam and Gas Engine Association, Weston United Methodist Church, Weston VFW Post 324 and the Northwest Missouri Marine Corps League. A visitation will be held 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at the Vaughn Funeral Home in Weston, MO. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 23, at the funeral home. Interment, with military honors will follow at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Weston. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Weston Boy Scout Troop 249.
