Change can be good and for the Leavenworth bowling teams, change came on Wednesday and it was great.
Competing in Shawnee Mission Northwest’s baker style tournament, which concentrates more on team scores than individual marks, the Pioneer boys finished second overall.
“I was very pleased,” LV coach Shad Langfoss said. “It was very good motivation for us going forward. We did much better than previous years and after talking to the kids, I know they were all encouraged with their efforts.”
In the competition’s pool play, the boys in blue went 3-0 by beating Northwest, Maranatha and Turner. Then in bracket action, Leavenworth topped Shawnee Mission North before falling to Northwest in the finals.
The Lady Pioneers went 1-2 in their pool play, beating Maranatha while losing to Northwest and Turner. But then the girls’ squad defeated Blue Valley West and Maranatha again in its bracket to win first in flight C (ninth overall).
“Quite a few girls stepped up today and did good,” Langfoss said. “Mallory Scherer and Sabrina Sigmon picked up several spares. With the boys, Nick Warf and Levi Denney continued to be our anchors.”
Leavenworth will return to the lanes this afternoon when the teams travel to Olathe South.
