It was a slow start for the Leavenworth girls’ basketball team Friday, but ultimately the finish was all that mattered.
Trailing 19-12 to Emporia after two quarters of play, the Lady Pioneers kicked its game into high gear to blow past its hosts. A 40-point second half, which included eight points from Emma Zeck in the fourth quarter alone, allowed Leavenworth to beat Emporia 52-45.
The victory pushes LV into the championship game of the Glacier’s Edge Girls Basketball Tournament today, which starts at 2 p.m. inside Emporia High.
Leavenworth, 7-4, will take on Topeka Seaman, 10-2.
