A 5-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after he was bit by a neighbor’s dog Sunday afternoon in Lansing, a police spokesman said.
It appears the boy was bitten on the cheek while he was trying to retrieve a flying disc from the neighbor’s yard. The boy had gone inside a fence to get the toy, according to Lansing police Capt. Ben Ontiveros.
The incident was reported at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the 900 block of Stonecrest Drive.
Ontiveros said there were two dogs in the neighbor’s yard, but only one, a German shepherd, reportedly bit the boy.
The boy was taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, Mo. Ontiveros said the two dogs were taken to Leavenworth Animal Control to be quarantined as part of standard procedure.
Lansing’s animal control officer was following up on the case Monday, Ontiveros said.
