To the editor:
I would like to thank the many people who phoned or wrote me via email or Facebook, encouraging me to run for one of the open seats for the Leavenworth school board.
I apologize for not being able to run this year, but encourage all concerned citizens to contact current and contending school board candidates with your concerns about the district. Don't be afraid to ask them hard-hitting questions – that's what they ran for, to serve as our representatives, making wise decisions based on complete information.
Or, better yet, share your concerns with everyone via a Letter to the Editor.
Only when the concerns of the many are heard, sincerely listened to, and rationally acted upon will we, as citizens, be the true governors of our district, city, county, state, and nation.
Otherwise, those with deep pockets and personal interests in power will continue to influence public policy, further disenfranchising those of us who depend on and believe in a government "of the people, by the people, and for the people."
