  • The Leavenworth Board of Education has extended the contract of Superintendent Kelly Crane.
The extension approved Monday night was for one year, but Crane already had a three-year contract, according to Kevin Gullett, chief financial officer for the school district.
“That covers the next three school years,” he said of the extension.
He said Crane’s contract now will run through June 2016.
Gullett said it’s not uncommon for superintendents to have three-year contracts.
The vote to extend the contract was 5-1 with board member Nancy Klemp voting against the measure, according to Brenda Sheumaker, assistant clerk of the board.
Board member Loyal Torkelson attended most of Monday’s meeting but had to leave before the vote was taken on the superintendent’s contract.
Gullett said the motion that extended the superintendent’s contract did not address salary.
He said board members may consider extending contracts of other administrators in the school district next month. He said most administrators have one-year contracts.
The board voted to extend the contract after meeting behind closed doors in executive session to discuss personnel.
Earlier during the meeting, the board met in executive session to consult with an attorney. After returning from that executive session, board members voted to accept a settlement agreement as discussed in executive session.
Gullett said he can’t comment on the settlement agreement.
“That’s a personnel matter,” he said.
