Throughout the month of February, Leavenworth will be holding an Indoor Ironman competition
Tabor Medill is the recreation program supervisor for sports at the Leavenworth Parks and Recreation Department.
What is an Indoor Ironman?
An individual completes an Ironman event and distances indoors.
They have the option of completing it all at the Riverfront Community Center. They also have the option of completing the bicycle distance at the Santa Fe Trails Bicycle Shop at 419 Delaware St.
What are the events and distances in an Ironman event?
The competition begins with a 2.4 mile swim, followed by 112 miles on a bicycle and concludes with a 26.2 mile run.
Does a participant have to complete the Ironman competition in one day?
No, a participant has the entire month of February to complete the various event distances.
They may choose to only run on a certain day. Then they may decide to swim and run on another day. There are no restrictions on how an individual completes the distances.
How does an individual verify the completion of their event distances?
The Indoor Ironman is strictly on the honor system. When an individual registers at the Riverfront Community Center, the individual is given a log book to complete each day of their activity.
The completed log book must be submitted no later than the close of business, 8 p.m., on March 1 at the Riverfront Community Center front desk.
How does an individual get started?
All an individual must do to start is come into the Riverfront Community Center front desk and register.
The registration fee is $25 for the month of February. The fee allows an individual access to the Riverfront Community Center aquatic center, cardiovascular room and running track. An individual may choose to do their biking at the Santa Fe Trails Bicycle Shop.
