To the editor:
I would like to thank all the businesses and persons who volunteered to make the Cancerthon at Abeles Field a super success.
Yes, we raised more funds than ever for this event when Brendan Sheehan, owner of Santa Fe Trails Bicycle and Coffee Shop, moved it outdoors.
It is heartwarming to see different groups in this city working for their charity. It is also nice to demonstrate to the young persons of this area that most persons care about diseases, people in need, etc. It shows them that paying kindness forward, whether it is collecting monies, assistance with house maintenance (snow shoveling, mowing a lawn etc..) has invaluable rewards. A few of these are personal satisfaction, feeling of self worth, and feeling part of a solution.
I have been involved with numerous fundraisers in this town and enjoyed the pleasure of working with these groups.
Yes it is unfortunate that we have some persons that expect a tangible reward for their "volunteering," or event directors who outsource a position that a person can do for them for free thus costing the charity less revenue.
Our local businesses support our concerns so we should support theirs! Race Local Buy Local is my motto.
