It wasn’t a pretty weekend for the Leavenworth boys’ swim team.
While the squad competed hard at its Sunflower League meet in Olathe, the results did not duplicate the effort.
The Pioneers placed 12th out of 12 teams with six points. Shawnee Mission East won the conference battle with a score of 331.
“We had some kids that were still doing some good stuff, but we just weren’t at the same level with some of those other teams on this particular weekend,” LV coach Willis Willmeth said. “For us, it’s been a good season and hopefully some kids can swim well this Thursday and extend that season.”
The best finishes for Leavenworth came in the preliminaries. Carsten Defore was 30th in the 200 free, Jacob Walker 34th in the 50 free and Duncan Robinnette 32nd in the 100 fly.
Josh Camarena tallied 31st in the 100 free, Defore was 26th during the 500 free while Hunter Higgins was 29th in the 100 backstroke. Ryan Hill placed 16th in the 100 breast.
All three Pioneer relay squads earned 12th.
On Wednesday, the squad will look to rebound at Lawrence Free State. The meet begins at 4 p.m.
“Carsten Defore has a state consideration time, Clayton Gubler and one of our relay teams do to and there are some others that are close,” Willmeth said. “It’s in their laps come Thursday and we will see what they can do.”
