For the third straight year, the Leavenworth powerlifting team took home the girls’ team championship from the Augusta Invitational last weekend.
Medalists for the girls’ team included Maggie Lee, who was the champion in the 114-pound class and also won medals for best squat (205 pounds) and best clean (145 pounds).
Pioneer Laura Payne took silver at 123 while competing in only her second powerlifting meet, while Jessica Rymer placed third in the 140-pound class.
Lacie Thornton earned second at 148 and a best clean medal thanks to her new personal record, 155 pounds, and freshman Nicole Tennant acquired silver at 165 after winning a best bench press award.
The Leavenworth boys’ squad competed in the junior division, where Jarod Weber captured second in the 165-pound class and in his first powerlifting meet, Jordan Cogdill won gold in the heavyweight category.
In the men’s division for high school juniors and seniors, Pioneer Mike Stratton claimed a silver medal.
Up next for Leavenworth is the Bobcat Power Invitational on Saturday, which begins at 9 a.m.
