Saint Mary men come up two points shy of league title; Lady Spires' losing streak hits four

While one is the magical number for Saint Mary men’s basketball right now, two is the digit that carried the most weight this weekend.
Needing just one win to clinch the regular season league title, the Spires came up two points short Saturday. On the road at Tabor College, the squad lost 77-75 to its host.
Matt Heydman led the team in scoring with 15, while Jordan Wilcox added 12 and Kevin Harvey pitched in 13.
USM, 20-7 overall and 14-2 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference, will take another crack at capturing the conference crown Thursday when it hosts Ottawa University at 8 p.m.

Lady Spires’ slide hits four
The struggles continued for the Saint Mary women’s basketball team Saturday.
For the fourth-straight game, the team fell to defeat, this time coming in the shape of a 61-55 loss to host Tabor College.
Shelby Watson led USM in scoring with 16 points while Bailey Hooker added 13.
The Lady Spires, 8-20 overall and 2-14 in conference, will host Ottawa University Thursday at 6 p.m.
