  • Authorities are investigating a report of shots being fired after an altercation in Leavenworth, a police spokesman said.
No one was injured by the gunshots. A woman suffered minor injuries during a battery that reportedly took place before the shooting, according to Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.
The incident was reported around 11:30 p.m. Monday in the 1900 block of Fifth Avenue. Police were dispatched to that location for a report of shots fired.
When they arrived, officers met with a 21-year-old man and 21-year-old woman. The two reported they had met with several people at that location.
The woman reportedly became involved in a physical altercation with other people at the scene.
She and the man left the property on foot. They reported that shots were fired at them as they were leaving, according to Nicodemus.
The deputy chief said police recovered a couple of shell casings at the scene and there appeared to be bullet damage to a residence in the neighborhood.
He said police are still looking into who fired the shots.
Police also met with a person identified as a suspect in the physical altercation. That person claimed the 21-year-old woman was responsible for the physical altercation.
Nicodemus said it appears the altercation occurred after one person said something about another person.
The 21-year-old woman had a swollen forehead after the incident.
“She was checked out by EMS on scene but was not transported to the hospital,” Nicodemus said.
No arrests were made. Nicodemus said police will continue to investigate the incident and try to obtain additional statements.
