Joseph A. Steve, JR of Leavenworth, Kansas passed away peacefully to be with his Holy Father on February 13, 2013 after a brief battle with cancer.
Joseph A. Steve, JR of Leavenworth, Kansas passed away peacefully to be with his Holy Father on February 13, 2013 after a brief battle with cancer. Joe was born April 17, 1939 in Smithfield, PA. He spent the majority of his childhood in Lake Lynn, PA on his family farm. He was active in the Future Farmers of America. He and his five brothers became Keystone Farmers for the State of Pennsylvania. He graduated from the West Virginia University with a Masters Degree in Animal Science. He later went on to earn a second Masters Degree in Business.
He proudly served in the US Army for 27 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He served in Viet Nam, Philippines and Turkey and various other assignments. He finished out his career at the Command and General Staff College as an Instructor for five years at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. After retiring he started his second career as a rancher in rural Leavenworth, raising Blueingo and Angus Cattle.
He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph A. Steve, Sr and Virginia M. Steve of Bunker Hill, Lake Lynn, PA.
He is survived by his loving wife of forty eight years, Judy B. Steve, five children Joseph R. (Donna), Martha Sutherland (Scott), Virginia Andersen (Jon), Cynthia Johnson (Jerome), William Steve, ten loving grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, five brothers and six sisters.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 15, 2013 from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Memorial service will be held 10 A.M. Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the funeral chapel. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Lansing, KS.
Memorial contributions honoring Joe's life may be sent to St. Joseph of the Valley Church, Easton, KS or the American Cancer Society.
