The visitation will be Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee, Leavenworth, KS. The Funeral will be Wednesday, February 20, 2013, 10:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 98 Main St., Farley MO.
Herbert was the son of Frederick and Mary Angelbeck Stratemeyer . He was predeceased by two half-sisters Alma Bucholz and Elsa Wetterman, and a half-brother, Harry Bond. He married Jean Marie Hamilton on May 16, 1954.
Herbert was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church, Farley, Missouri. He taught Sunday School for 17 years and served as sexton.
Herb held jobs at the Farley State Bank and City National Bank in Kansas City. He worked briefly as a station agent at a small airfield in Columbus, Nebraska. He owned and operated the Farley grocery for three years. He retired in 1988 from the United States Disciplinary Barracks after 21 years of service.
He served during World War II in the Army Air Force as an airplane sheet metal worker, stationed in Casablanca.
Survivors include his wife Jean; son, David (Seneva) Stratemeyer, grandson, Brett Stratemeyer; son, Larry Stratemeyer, (friend Michael Lehtinen); nephews Ronnie Bond, Eldon Bond, and Jerry Bond.
Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church (Farley, Missouri); or Cushing Memorial Hospital (Leavenworth, KS).
