While neither the Leavenworth nor Lansing boys' swim teams walked away with medals this weekend, both squads still represented their schools proudly on a statewide stage.
The two teams competed in the 5-1A state meet in Topeka, where the Lions began the event in record breaking fashion.
Lansing's 200 yard medley relay foursome — Matt Holden, Stephen Szmed, Dion DePaolis and Jack Bresser — finished in 21st place overall, and while doing so, set a new school record.
“It was a great start to the meet for us,” Lansing coach Josh Floetke said.
Other Lion results included DePaolis securing 31st in the 100 fly, Holden grabbing 19th in the 500 free while Chase Martin was 30th, and Szmed coming in 29th during the 100 breast stroke.
Lansing's 400 yard free relay — Bresser, Jake Hecht, DePaolis and Szmed — came in 22nd place.
Leavenworth saw its 200 medley relay quartet of Clayton Gubler, Carson Owens, Duncan Robinnette and Josh Camarena pull in 30th place.
Ryan Hill came in 26th during the 100 breaststroke.
