Rebecca Kay Brownson , 59, of Leavenworth died Tuesday, February 19, 2013 following a brave battle with cancer.
Rebecca Kay Brownson , 59, of Leavenworth died Tuesday, February 19, 2013 following a brave battle with cancer. Born in Springfield, Missouri, Brownson was a graduate of Kansas State University. She did animal research at Kansas State and Arizona State Universities before moving to the Los Angeles area where she worked in a family business prior to becoming a manager with RideOn, a therapeutic riding program for people with disabilities. After returning to Leavenworth she served as the manager of the Frontier Army Museum Gift Shop at Ft. Leavenworth. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Leavenworth Lions Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution and PEO.
Brownson was preceded in death by her father, Robert E. Brownson. Survivors include her mother, Doris L Brownson of Owensboro, KY, brothers Rollin Brownson of Morristown, TN and Terry Brownson of Owensboro, KY, several cousins, nieces and nephews and her loyal friends Jan Glick Jan Glick, Bill Wood and Vicky Fitzpatrick of Leavenworth. She also left behind her beloved cats Shroom, Seeif and Liz.
Family will receive friends Saturday, February 23, 2013 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Followed by an informal memorial service is planned for Saturday at 11:00 a.m., in the Davis Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth. It was her desire for her ashes to be spread on the Brownson family farm in Richardson County, NE. Expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, may take the form of donations to First United Methodist Church or the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are being handled by Davis Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth.
