Each February 4-H members participate in the Leavenworth County 4-H Club Day.
Each February 4-H members participate in the Leavenworth County 4-H Club Day. The event offers a wide range of categories in which a member can participate. The entire club can hold a model meeting; groups can form a chorus, band or dance ensemble and individuals can give talks or demonstrations, sing, dance, play an instrument or show other talents.
No projects are judged on this day only the presentation or performing skills of the youth. It's one day where the youth can put themselves in the spotlight exhibiting the 4-H life skill of presentations and public speaking.
On Feb. 9 the 2013 4-H Club Day was held at Tonganoxie Middle School. Ribbons were awarded with a Top Blue indicating the group or member eligible to represent Leavenworth County in the Regional 4-H Club Day in March in Atchison.
Three clubs did Model Meetings - Happy Hollow 4-H Club received the Top Blue, Happy Helpers 4-H Club and Livewires 4-H Club received Blues.
In the Jr. Demonstrations - Matt Schwartz and Braxton Shupe received Top Blues with Emmett Keene getting the alternate Blue. Catie Larson and Alex Falk received Blues. Project Talks for ages 7-13 had Top Blues awarded to Abby Wood and Kelsey Theis with the alternate going to the team of Braxton and Evan Shupe. Cassidy Jones and the team of Jack and Jake Heim took home Blues. Jack Habjan, Brett Klamm, DJ Klamm, Rose Parsons and Tyson Root all received Reds.
In the Sr. Demonstrations David Falk and Luke Falk took Top Blue honors with Leah Parsons getting the alternate Blue. Abe Buddish also got Blue. In Public Speaking Austin Wiley took the Top Blue with Kenny Campbell receiving a Red.
The Show and Tell class for new members ages 7-8 had Mary Habjan receiving a Blue and in the Cloverbuds (ages 5-6) Gaven Shupe received a participation ribbon.
Reno Bobwhites 4-H Club received the Top Blue for their chorus with Mariah Dohle taking the Top Blue for her Vocal Solo. In the Instrumental Solo area the Top Blue was awarded to Samantha Angell while Catherine Davidson took the alternate Blue. Amy Eberth, David Falk and Christy Wiley received Blues and Kaylee Lowe received a Red.
There were seven Piano Solos with Katie Eberth taking the Top blue and Josie Parsons the alternate Blue. Luke Falk, Sadie Jane Johnson, Braxton Shupe, Leah Parsons and Evan Shupe all received Blues.
In Individual Dance Catherine Davidson was the Top Blue with Cheyenne Hindman the alternate Blue. The Small Group Dance team from Ft. Leavenworth Harrold Youth Center, "Cray Beatz," received a Top Blue. Members included Blair Inabinett, Kara Torster, Jadan Gilliland and Mason Jasuta. The Large Dance Group team also from Ft. Leavenworth Harrold Youth Center, "HYC All Stars," was the Top Blue. Team members are Alyche' Brown, Angelina David, Cara Fowler, Gretchen Stephens, Janae Patton, Jordan Brown, Juliet Aguilar, Michaela McBride, Mikayla Rangle, Millenia Hood, Skyla Poss, Ahila Patton, Aileem Waddell and Camya Reid.
In the Reading Category of Drama the Top Blue went to Christy Wiley with David Falk taking the alternate Blue. Luke Falk and Braxton Shupe received Blues and Samantha Angell, Sydney Angell, Josie Parsons and Alex Falk took Reds. In the Other Talent division Amy Eberth received a Top Blue for her gymnastics, team of Alex and Luke Falk received a Top Blue for their skit and Catie Larson received a Red.
