Due to inclement weather, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach has extended the advance primary voting cutoff until 7 p.m. Monday evening.
He encouraged Kansans to vote Monday in order to avoid the winter storm scheduled to move in early Tuesday morning. Currently four candidates have filed for the Basehor mayor position requiring a primary election. The top two elected in the primary will move on to the general election which will be April 2, 2013. Voters are only able to vote for one candidate. The following candidates have filed for mayor — Fred Box, incumbent David Breuer, Scott Kendrick and Alan Townsend.
Voting Monday will only take place at the Leavenworth County Clerk's Office in the County Court House located at 300 Walnut St. in Leavenworth. Regular voting for the mayoral primary election is scheduled to take place Tuesday. Polling will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 15410 Leavenworth Road. County Clerk Janet Klasinski has confirmed state law dictates the primary election can not be canceled or rescheduled due to inclement weather.
