  • The jury trial for a woman accused of leaving her baby alone in an alley has been continued for a month.
The trial of Elizabeth A. Michaud was scheduled to begin today, but the case was continued because of concern about how an anticipated winter storm would affect the court proceedings.
The trial is now set to begin March 25, according to Assistant County Attorney Cheryl Marquardt.
Michaud is accused of leaving her infant son alone May 3 in an alley in Leavenworth. Authorities believe she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol the night of the incident. She is charged with aggravated endangering a child.
District Judge Gunnar Sundby expressed concern today about what will happen Tuesday as a result of a storm that is expected to dump a significant amount of snow in the area. He said the Justice Center, the building that houses his courtroom, may not be open Tuesday.
He said people who had shown up for jury duty were released from their service this morning.
