On Friday, I joined my Kansas Congressional Delegation colleagues and Gov. Brownback to announce that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) awarded the $40 million contract for the construction of the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF) Central Utilities Plant.
This is great news for Kansas and the nation, as it is an important step forward in making this facility a physical reality, and strengthening our national security by protecting American citizens from foreign threats and diseases. At a time when our nation is looking for significant budget savings, this contract approval is further evidence we can still find funds for mission critical projects, such as research to improve the security of America's food supply, that will be undertaken at the NBAF.
I believe the NBAF is key to the fundamental responsibility of the federal government to protect its citizens, and I am committed to continuing to do everything I can to help move this project forward.
We had quite the storm in Kansas this week, and I would like to thank all our road crews, emergency workers, and local law enforcement officials who were out in the ice and snow helping Kansans stay safe and warm.
