  • Betty Jean (Regnier) Duree was born in Leavenworth, Kansas on April 24, 1946, the first of five children to Gerald H. Regnier and Kathleen E. (Johnson) Regnier. She attended her first year of elementary school at a small one-room country school in Richardson, Kansas, then in Leavenworth schools with the exception of her seventh and eighth grades at St. Paul Lutheran School. She graduated from Leavenworth Senior High School in 1964 and then attended St. John's College at Winfield, Kansas.
Upon leaving St. John College, Betty joined the Federal Civil Service work force as an Editor and Illustrator/Editor for the United States Army at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and the United States Marine Base, Quantico at Quantico, Virginia. She retired with 29 years of service. She returned to Leavenworth after retirement devoting herself to the care of her mother during her mother's last years on earth.
Betty was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church & School and was baptized into the Christian faith and confirmed as a Lutheran there.
Betty passed on to her heavenly home February 25, 2013. She found comfort in the words of Isaiah 40:31 - "but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
Betty is survived by her son, Devlon D. Duree of Kansas City, Missouri, two sisters: Diane C. (Regnier) Barrett, Barbara L. Regnier, and two brothers: Dennis F. Regnier (all of Leavenworth), and Dwayne E. Regnier (Patrice) of Platte City, Missouri. She has three nephews: Jason G. Barrett (Lindsay), Colby Regnier, and Nicholas Regnier, one niece: Maggie Regnier, and four grand-nephews: Ryder, Brooks, Charlie-Finn, and Grae Barrett.
Even in our sorrow and loss, we rejoice with her as mother, sister, aunt and friend at her entrance into eternal life!
In keeping with her last wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Her siblings will host a reception celebrating and sharing Betty's life for her family and friends at the St. Paul Lutheran Church basement, 7th and Miami, Leavenworth, Kansas, on Sunday, March 3, 2013, 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
