  • Curtis Nightingale, athletic director at Pratt High School, has announced that the school’s mascot—the Greenback—has been selected by USA Today to participate in a national contest for the best high school mascot out of the 18,00 high schools in the United States.
Nightingale, who was interviewed last week by USA Today, reported that the publication selected five mascots from each State for preliminary competition. The State winners will then advance to head-to-head regional and national competition.
The Greenback was chosen to compete against the Hesston Swathers, the Fowler Goldbugs, the St. John’s Military Mule Skinners and the Palco Roosters in Kansas. State winners are to be selected by popular vote, so Greenback supporters are urged to vote early and often for The Fighting Frog.
Multiple voting is allowed, so Greenback supporters can vote as often as they wish up until March 5 when the State contest closes. There will then be 6 regional competitions running from March 6-14, and regional winners will compete from March 15-25 for a chance to be named best high school sports mascot in America.
The top five mascots in the nation will receive cash awards from USA Today ranging from $100 to $2,000, the money to be given to the schools’ athletic departments.
Greenback boosters can show their support at the following website:  http://contest.usatodayhss.com/        Remember to vote early and often for the Greenback!!
