Lady Pioneers will play Wednesday at 3 p.m. while Lions will start Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
It's time to raise the curtain because the show is just about to begin.
The stage has officially been set for this week's Class 5A state basketball tournaments. With their respective substate crowns in tow, the Leavenworth girls' and Lansing boys' basketball teams will head to Topeka to partake in the festivities.
On Sunday, the brackets were released for the competition. The girls' tourney will begin on Wednesday when the No. 8 seeded Lady Pioneers (14-8) take on No. 1 seed St. Thomas Aquinas (21-1).
Tip time is set for 3 p.m. inside the Topeka Expocentre. All of this week's games will be held inside the Expocentre.
Win that game, and Leavenworth will face either No. 4 seed Newton (18-4) or No. 5 seed Andover (18-4) on Friday at 3 p.m. for the chance to compete in Saturday's championship contest.
The boys' competition begins Thursday, where No. 2 seed Lansing (20-1) will square up against No. 7 seeded Hayes (14-7) at 6:30 p.m.
The winner of that matchup will be pitted against either No. 3 seed Emporia (20-2) or No. 6 seed Kapaun Mt. Carmel (16-6) Friday at 8:15 p.m. The state final and consolation games will be held on Saturday.
Be sure to check out tomorrow and Wednesday's papers for full previews on the area's two state-bound teams.
