  • Three event highlights
1 The third annual Handcuffs & Helmets charity basketball game will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lansing High School, 220 Lion Lane. The game will feature a team of Lansing police officers versus Leavenworth County Fire District No. 1 firefighters. So far, the firefighters have been undefeated in the annual game.
"That should change this year, hopefully," quipped Detective Richard DeMateo, a member of the Lansing Police Department and organizer of the event. "We'll see."
2 The game serves as a fundraiser each year for the Special Olympics. This year, the event also will raise money for the charity Wounded Warrior Project.
3 DeMateo said the event also will feature a bake sale and people can purchase raffle tickets.
    Why you should attend
DeMateo said people can enjoy the event with their families.
"It's for a good cause," he said.
