Wednesday evening, people in an upstairs apartment in north Leavenworth heard a loud pop but didn't know what had made the noise. The next day, it was discovered a bullet had been fired into the apartment, a police spokesman said.
The incident was reported to police at 2:38 p.m. Thursday at an apartment building in the 300 block of Osage Street, but it happened around 7 p.m. the day before. No injuries were reported.
Leavenworth Deputy Police Chief Dan Nicodemus said two people were in the apartment when the shot apparently was fired. They reportedly heard a single "pop" noise and weren't sure where it come from.
The next day, a woman at the apartment discovered a hole in drywall as well as damage to a table, punch bowl and humidifier. She realized a bullet had been fired into her apartment from an apartment below.
Nicodemus said police spoke with a resident from the apartment that is downstairs from the victim's apartment.
"We're still trying to determine exactly who fired the shot," he said.
He said police did not recover the bullet.
