A Leavenworth man has been charged with seven sex crimes in connection with a child, according to a news release from the Jackson County, Mo., prosecutor's office.
George L. Spencer, 58, has been charged in Jackson County with first-degree statutory sodomy, forcible sodomy, three counts of first-degree child molestation and two counts of sexual misconduct involving a child, according to the release from the office of Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.
According to court records, the crimes are alleged to have occurred in February 2012. A 13-year-old victim told police that Spencer molested her while he was working as a minister at a Kansas City, Mo., church she attended.
Spencer also had been involved in ministry at the Lansing Correctional Facility for a period of time, according to court records.
Spencer was taken into custody recently in New Orleans on a warrant from Jackson County. Charges filed against Spencer had been under seal until Tuesday.
