Leavenworth's top honorees are Tyler Johnson, Tashia Jones and Cameron Wiggins
After reaching the state tournament for the first time since 2003, the accolades have begun to roll in for the Leavenworth girls' basketball team.
On Tuesday, five Lady Pioneers were recognized by the Sunflower League for their efforts this past season.
Sophomore forwards Tyler Johnson and Tashia Jones were named to the All-Sunflower second-team. Johnson finished as one the league's top scorers with 10.6 points per game and averaged 6.1 rebounds in league play.
Jones was the conference's top rebounder, 9.5 per contest, and she averaged 2.8 steals in league action.
Leavenworth sophomore forward Rachel Blackburn, senior guard Rashayla Mathis and senior guard Emma Zeck were given honorable mention nods.
Blackburn averaged 6.1 rebounds in league play while Zeck led the conference in assists with 3.9 and Mathis averaged three assists per contest.
The Lady Pioneers finished sixth in the Sunflower League, 7-4, before winning a substate crown and going to its first state tourney in a decade. The squad lost its opening round matchup in double overtime against eventual champs St. Thomas Aquinas, and thus closed out the year 14-9.
The Leavenworth boys had two receive league accolades. Junior guard Cameron Wiggins was selected to the All-Sunflower third-team while junior guard Jason Randall was tabbed for the honorable mention list.
The Pioneers finished 11th in the conference, going 2-9 and 6-15 overall.
