It was a rough two-day stretch for the Saint Mary softball team.
Competing on the road, the Spires lost both of its doubleheaders on Tuesday and Wednesday.
To begin the week, USM fell 6-0 and 9-1 to St. Catharine College of Kentucky. Then on the following day, the squad dropped a 7-1 and 9-0 result to Tennessee Wesleyan.
Against St. Catharine, pitcher Steeli Norton took the first lost after tossing a complete game. She gave up five earned runs, seven hits and struck out four. The Lady Spires had just six hits in the shutout loss.
The second contest saw the squad suffer through a five-run sixth inning, which blew open the 4-1 contest.
Versus Wesleyan, Victoria Toplikar suffered the first defeat after pitching a complete game.
She allowed four earned runs on seven hits and struck out six. Tracie Weege recorded Saint Mary's lone RBI.
The second contest saw Norton give up 10 hits and seven earned runs in four innings. USM had one hit in the contest, coming from Kayla Hackney.
The Lady Spires, 1-5, will face Pikeville today at 1 p.m.
