It's hard to imagine a better start to the season than what Leavenworth's Judson Cole did on Thursday.
The senior hurler tossed a 64-pitch no-hitter over six innings, including 13 strikeouts, to enable the Pioneers to pummel JC Harmon 12-0.
"If he threw any balls, he probably meant to," LV coach Joe Allison said of Cole. "He was on and was just as dominant as the stats show."
While Cole was perfect from the hill, offensively it took the Pioneers a few innings to get going.
After two runs in the first inning, it wasn't until a five-run fourth frame that the game was blown wide open.
The squad then added a score in the fifth and four in the sixth to take the double-digit win.
"Offensively, you could tell it was their first day on the diamond tonight," Allison said. "We finally broke through in that fourth. Michael Baillergeon had good wood on all of his at-bats today."
Eli Keppler went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Baillergeon added two RBIs on a 1-for-4 performance. Jose Cardenas, Kyle Pangracs, Cole and Billy Harrah also recorded hits on the day.
The Pioneers, 1-0, will host Savannah High School (Mo.) Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
