  • Lansing boys' tennis wants encore

  • New Lions hope to continue success from 2012
    • email print
  • Team: Lansing boys' tennis
    Last year's top finishes:
    * second place overall at regional meet
    * second place overall at state meet
    * Anil Patel won first at regional and state meets
    * Alberto Buogo won second at regional and state meets
    Coach: Edward Fenton
    Key returnees:
    * senior Bailey Miller
    Newcomers to watch:
    * junior Thomas Bremser
    * junior Andrew Fodness
    * junior Jered Gatson
    * junior Joe Lorenzen
    * junior Tristan McMahon
    Team Outlook: STRENGTHS ― Though the Lions did lose four seniors, including a state champ and runner-up from last year's squad, the team does have seven returning players from 2012.
    "The returning players had an opportunity to see the kind of work and commitment it takes to be the best in state after watching Anil and Albert at practice," Fenton said.
    WEAKNESSES ― Varsity experience will be the biggest deficit facing Lansing. Bailey Miller is the only returning letter winner, meaning the other six Lions coming back from last year's team will have a large learning curve to deal with.
    Big meets: At Mill Valley Tournament March 27; At Baldwin Invitational April 13; At Leavenworth Tournament April 24; At DeSoto Wildcat Invitational April 27
    Coach says: "We have a nice group of experienced JV players looking to make the move to varsity.
    "I'm expecting our returning players to continue to work hard and build on what they learned last year practicing with the top two players in the state every day.
    "As a team we have the goals of increasing our medal count at tournaments and getting a singles player and doubles team to state this year."
