Two fiberglass bear statues were the hallmark of the Leavenworth Plaza Shopping Center for years, according to a local museum official.
But times have changed. Today, the shopping center is mostly empty.
And the two bears have a new home ― the First City Museum.
Del Sanders, president of the Leavenworth Historical Museum Association, said the museum has had the bears for about two weeks.
He believes there is a lot in interest among people in the community regarding what he described as the mamma bear and cub.
"They remember going to the Plaza and playing on the bears," he said.
Sanders believes the mall opened in the 1960s.
He said a common area in the mall has been closed, and museum officials were asked in January if they were interested in having the bears.
"We're going to display them," he said.
