  • I continue to muse along wondering how Master Baker of Sagasu Family Martial Arts was able to locate Little Bunny FooFoo when he was looking for Bugs.
Oh well, everyone, please keep searching for Bugs.
    * While I am on the topic of Bugs and Master Baker, Peter Cottontail has asked that I remind everyone of the Easter Egg Hunt.
Due to inclement weather, the event will be pushed to next Saturday at 1 p.m. at 10th Avenue Park.
    * Youth baseball/softball, adult men’s/women’s softball, adult coed sand volleyball, and adult men’s summer basketball sign-ups are now in full swing.
Youth sign-ups will end on April 25 while the adult sign-ups will end April 29. The adult seasons will begin the week of May 20. Our youth seasons will begin the week of June 3.
    * Individuals may only be on one roster in the leagues that have divisional play this summer.
All divisions were established for this coming season at the end of the past summer season.
Anyone needing to know which division they are to register for this season may contact me at 913-758-6648 or tmedill@firstcity.org.
    * What a week of adult women’s volleyball we had. Boom defeated Six Pack 25-23 and 25-19 to hold onto second place.
The Drillers defeated Diggin’ It 2-0 in games to remain undefeated. Diggin’ It keeps getting closer and closer to winning their first game as our newest team in the league.
You can see them improving each week as they grow to know the skills of their teammates.
    * In adult men’s Tuesday night basketball, Bomb Squad behind the 24 points of Marc Rozanski, 20 of Chadd Shoemaker and Brad Heim’s 14 defeated Zeck Ford 66-44. Josh Fitch (Zeck Ford) scored 19 points in the loss.
In a doozy of a game, Prime Time won a 66-64 squeaker over Studdard as Prime Time had Sam Kenyi's 17, Ronald Thomas' 15, Brandon Hildebrandt's 13 and Spencer Hildebrandt's 10 in double figures for the victors.
Carl Roberson (21), Jeremy Wilder (17), and Justin Cathey (16) did the same for Studdard.
As Curtis Brown and Justin Crutchfield each scored 25 points, LV Street Elite remained one game ahead of Bomb Squad in the standings, as they cruised to an 88-53 win over Oh Yeah. Stephen Didde led the way, in defeat, with 16.
    * In Thursday night’s games, in defeat, Jordan Glenn (Angry Ewoks) dropped 30 on the victorious Mutual Savings. Mutual was led in scoring by Trent Peter's 27 in their 72-64 victory.
Page 2 of 2 - Wheaton Warbirds defeated Young Sign Company 63-49 as Jake Kavanaugh exploded for 38 points. Joe Thorne (Young Sign) hit for 19 points.
In Purple Reign’s 80-67 victory over 2711, Derek Helton (24), P.J. Sigle (21), and Will Johnson (20) all came up big for the Reign. Ryan Hoppe, with six threes, tallied 21 for 2711.
    * Now that youth basketball is completed, I would be remiss if I did not mention our gym supervisors.
I want to extend a huge thank you to Bill Alford (1st/2nd graders at Nettie Hartnett Learning Center), Jimmy Watkins (3rd/4th graders at Lawson Elementary) and William Cook (5th/6th graders at West Intermediate School).
These gentlemen did a fantastic job in having everything up and ready to start on time so the games ran smoothly throughout the season.
Huge kudos to all of you. We would not have had the success we had without your great effort on our behalf.
    * Our TRYathlon for children ages 6-15 will be April 13 at 8 a.m. Every child receives a “finisher” medal and a T-shirt.
The age groups are 6-8, 9-11, and 12-15. This event allows the children to utilize their swimming, biking and running skills.
The distances are adjusted to encourage the children to participate and times are not kept. Registration is through April 13.
Tabor Medill is the recreation supervisor for the Leavenworth Parks and Recreation Department.
