  • State crown for Lady Pioneer lifters

  • Leavenworth boys' squad earns runner-up title, best finish in program's three-year history

  • After falling just short the last two years, the Leavenworth girls' powerlifting team finally reached the top of the state summit last weekend.
    Among nearly 300 athletes at the Kansas 5A State Powerlifting Championships in Wichita, the Lady Pioneers won the title for the first time in its three-year history.
    In 2011, LV was third in the 6A state meet and runner-ups in 2012.
    Another first for the squad was the boys' team earning runner-up recognition, its highest team placement in three years.
    The individual medalists for the Lady Pioneers included:
    * Maggie Lee, state champion in the 114-pound class while setting a new 5A state record in the clean at 160-pounds

    * Rebekah Covington, second place in the 123-pound class

    * Tabitha Larkin, state champion in the 132-pound class

    * Meagan McLain, second place in the 132-pound class

    * Lacie Thornton, state champion in the 148-pound class

    * Hallie Lucas, second place in the 148-pound class

    * Amelia Cribb, third place in the 148-pound class

    * Annika Wulff, second place in the 156-pound class

    * Jasmine Swannagan, third place in HWT
    Individual lift medals were taken by all of the above medalists along with Nicole Genail, Jailyn Settles, Nicole Tennant and Ashley Fleurant.
    The individual medalists for the Leavenworth boys included:
    * Matt Vail, state champion in the 114-pound class
    * Kole Runyan, third place in the 132-pound class
    * Jarod Weber, third place in the 156-pound class
    * Jordan Donnelson, second place in the 198-pound class
    * Jarred Donnelson, state champion in the 220-pound class
    Individual lift medals were taken by all of the above medalists along with Kris Imhof and Jason Randall.
