Theda Marie Henderson Skillin was born in rural Nebraska near Carleton to Floyd and Grace Henderson and died March 10, 2013 in Colorado Springs, CO. Her siblings included an older brother and sister, Robert and Barbara who are deceased and a beloved baby sister, Esther of Portland, Oregon who survives. She married William G Skillin and they began a life of farming near Blue Rapids, Kansas and later moved to Leavenworth. William Skillin died in 1973. Theda is survived by two sons, William of Parkville, MO, Robert of Clay Center, KS and a daughter, Betty of Colorado Springs, CO. She is survived by 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and several nieces.
Theda was active in her children's lives by being a den mother with Cub Scouts, helping with Boy Scouts, involving her children in swimming lessons and baseball and assisting in 4-H. After she was widowed she went to work in the cafeteria at Leavenworth Senior High School and later volunteered for the Radiology Dept. at Cushing Memorial Hospital.
Theda was a member of The Church of the Open Door in Leavenworth and later the First United Methodist Church.
Theda moved to Colorado Springs, CO in 2010 to a Senior Condominium complex where she was active in gardening and came to know all of the 30 residents of her building on a first name basis. She enjoyed walking in Garden of the Gods, Palmer Park and Bear Creek Park.
Graveside services and burial will be at Frankfort Kansas Cemetery, Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 3:00 p.m.
