In its first year of competition, the Pleasant Ridge powerlifting team sent 13 kids to the 3A State Powerlifting Championships on March 16.
At the Marion-held competition, which included 35 schools, the Lady Rams came in 11th. The boys' squad did not place.
“It's not bad for our first year,” PR coach Pat McCollim said.
Leading the Ridge girls was Nicole Holden, who was the state runner-up in the 117-pound class. She finished third in squats and second in bench.
Behind her came Syvannah Williams and her sixth overall placement in the 148-pound class, and Shyanne Robinson, who was third in squats within the 132-pound division.
Quincey Widdice grabbed third in the bench during in the women's powerweight class.
The PR boys' highlight came from Jason Simonis, who was the state champion in the bench press for the 198-pound class.
