  • The woman who has been serving as the interim president of the Leavenworth Regional Catholic Schools has announced she will be leaving at the end of the school year.
In a letter posted on the school system's website, Karen Davis indicated she feels the Catholic schools "would benefit from a different person in this position now."
Davis has been serving as the interim president of the local Catholic school system since former President Barbara Fitzgerald left at the end of December.
Davis also has continued to serve as principal of Xavier Catholic School, a position she's held since 2011.
In her letter, Davis wrote that in recent weeks she has "spent a great deal of time praying and
really focusing on what is best for our school system."
She also wrote that she has "accepted a position that is a better match for my skills and talents." She didn't provide other details about her new job.
The Catholic schools were closed Thursday, and Davis couldn't be reached for additional comment.
"I will continue to work closely with the administration team and Board of Trustees in
planning for the upcoming school year over the next three months," she wrote.
She expressed appreciation for the support and guidance she's received during the last two years.
In another letter posted on the Catholic schools website, Stephen Mulcahy, chairman of the Board of Trustees, wrote that a search committee has been established "to ensure the continuation of excellence in leadership for our school."
He indicated the committee will include a cross section of the Catholic schools community.
Mulcahy wrote that the Board of Trustees is grateful for Davis' service.
