  • To the editor:
April 2 is right around the corner and election time will soon be here. There are two fine outstanding individuals running for the Leavenworth USD 453 school board.
They are Mike Carney and Doug Darling.
I have known these two individuals for many years and know they have the three important "C" factors: character, competence and caring.
Though they are running separate campaigns, their platforms are similar: They are both focused on success of all children in the district, committed to ensuring the safety and security of staff and students, come prepared to board meetings, not be a rubber stamp and are committed to serving the taxpayer.
Mike and Doug have both been former board members and understand the privilege of serving on such an important board.
At present, there are several educators already on the school board. Although I deeply care about an education career (I am soon completing 50 years of teaching) the Leavenworth School Board needs diversity and objectivity.
Mike and Doug will bring a needed balance to the seven-member board.
It has been an incredible honor to have a teaching career that I have loved the past 50 years.
It is also a wonderful privilege to live in a free country where everyone eligible can vote. So on April 2, make a difference and vote.
