  • Four unopposed candidates for the Lansing City Council won another term in their seats Tuesday.
Each the four candidates were also incumbents ― Dave Trinkle in Ward 1, Don Studnicka in Ward 2, Kerry Brungardt in Ward 3 and Tony McNeill in Ward 4. Each ward has two council members, with elections staggered.
With the final tally, Brungardt and McNeill both win second four-year terms on the eight-member board. Trinkle will begin his fourth term and Studnicka, the council's senior-most member, will begin his fifth term.
McNeill garnered the most votes among the four, netting 113 votes in his ward, with three write-in votes for other candidates. Brungardt had the second-most votes in the race, with 103, and four write-ins going to others. Studnicka won 72 votes with seven write-ins for other candidates and Trinkle took 67 in Ward 1, with two write-in votes cast. All vote totals are unofficial until certified next week.
The candidates in interviews have said they felt the city has many important issues still on its plate, including wastewater and other infrastructure improvements, economic development and further build-out of the city's Kenneth W. Bernard Community Park.
