Lansing police thought a container found in a field Friday may have been a meth lab. But the container turned out to be an alcohol still, according to a police spokesman.

Lt. Fred Grenier of the Lansing Police Department said the container, which was a five-gallon bucket, was reported around 7 p.m. Friday. It was found in a vacant lot on Hickory Trail.

Based on observations of the container and modifications that had been made, police thought it could have been a type of meth lab that uses only a single pot, Grenier said.

The Leavenworth County Sheriff's Office responded and tested the substance in the container. Members of Leavenworth County Fire District No. 1 also stood by as a precaution because of concerns about hazardous materials.

Grenier said the substance in the container ultimately was destroyed. Authorities have no idea who owned it.
