Joseph Parks, 92, Leavenworth passed away April 1, 2013. Joe was born October 25, 1920 in Vanduser, Mo. to Guy and Goldie Parks. He grew up in Illinois. From 1940 to 1945 Joe served in WWll in the Army with the 89th Division Army Infantry as Assistant Platoon Sergeant and a Military Policeman.
He married Margaret E. Freer on October 25, 1942 in Leavenworth, KS. After serving in the military, Joe began working at the Leavenworth VA Medical Center and retired in 1975. He worked as a Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary Ellen, Blanche, Rosie and Audrey.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Margaret Parks, one daughter, Joann (Clarence) Jenkins, one son Larry (Susan) Parks, 5 grandchildren, Connie Baxter, Debbie Williams, Tammy (Ahmad) Upshaw, Amy Parks-Williams, Elizabeth Parks, six great-grandchildren, Crystal (Matt) Fangohr, Courtney Baxter, Kaylie, Amari, Adrian and Devanti Williams, two great-great grandchildren Cassidy Pennington and Conner Baxter, one brother, Guy Parks, Jr.
Joe was known for his gardening skills and grew a huge garden each year. He enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling, playing cards-and spending time with his family.
Family will receive friends Friday, April 5, 2013, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Chapel following with a 1:30 p.m. funeral service. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Calvary Baptist Church. Condolences may sent to www.davisfuneralchapelinc.com
