A Leavenworth man was arrested after he allegedly tried to discard a bag of drugs in a store parking lot, a police spokesman said.
The incident reportedly occurred around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday outside of the Leavenworth Wal-Mart store.
Leavenworth Deputy Police Chief Dan Nicodemus said the 35-year-old suspect may have tried to discard the bag because a police officer was in the area. The officer reportedly saw the man drop the bag near a parked vehicle. The suspect then attempted to walk away.
The officer initially thought the bag may have contained items stolen from the store.
Inside the bag, police found what they believe to be methamphetamine as well as pills.
The suspect was arrested for allegations of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and violating a drug tax stamp law.
