The Lady Lions swim team finished third at Bonner Springs Wednesday. They finished behind Shawnee Mission East and Bonner Springs, who placed first and second, respectively. Turner finished fourth.
Many of the swimmers on the young Lions team shaved their times by multiple seconds, including junior Carmen Mabee, who improved by six seconds in the 200-yard individual medley. Mabee finished sixth in the event, and sophomore Rachel Jessup was just ahead in fourth.
"We did great," Lansing girls swim coach Mona Hauver said. "We have a long time to improve. By watching them swim you wouldn't know you're watching a young team."
The team's best relay performance was a third- place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, featuring swimmers Mabee, Carmen Hecht, Mikayla DePaolis, and Cynnamon Dill.
The top individual Lansing finisher was DePaolis, a freshman, who took third in the 100-yard backstroke.
The swimmers will compete April 11 at Washington High School in Kansas City, Kan. First heat is at 4:15 p.m.
