  • To the editor:
First of all, I would like to give a big congratulations to all the candidates who were victorious in their bids for city commissioners of Leavenworth. It was a very smooth race without any back biting and/or negativity. Some very good issues were brought up and expressed. I feel ALL candidates did a fine job representing themselves and what they stand for. Again, congratulations to all who won as well as a big thank you to all those who campaigned.
Second, it's rather saddening and disheartening that only 7.45 percent of the registered voters actually got out and voted. A couple of the candidates spent money, lots of time, walked neighborhoods and put out signs & flyers.
Why? Because a couple of your fellow citizens care about what happens to our city and all who reside here. Yet, approximately 92 percent of our city's registered voters didn't bother to vote.
If you are a registered voter and did not take a few minutes out of your time to vote, then like it or not, you are part of the problem with Leavenworth. We, as a society have become adapted to complaining and finger pointing, yet taking no action. And that, my fellow citizens..... is a shame.
Throughout our U.S. history many, many lives were lost in giving you your right to vote and be heard. What was your excuse for not voting?
I sincerely hope we citizens of Leavenworth do a better job in our future elections.
