  • Rejuvenated Lions dispatch Basehor in make-up game

  • Perhaps it was a good thing that the second game of Lansing's doubleheader against Basehor Wednesday was postponed to Friday afternoon. It gave Lions coach Mike Williams a chance to take the team aside and "have a long chat" about the miscues from Wednesday's 13-12 loss.
"I talked about being focused and coming to the ballpark ready to play," Williams said. "They listened and responded. We minimized the bone-headed plays today."
The Lions turned in a solid performance and a 6-3 victory to split the series. Starter Cole Muse went the distance, giving up three runs, one earned.
"He did what we asked him to," Williams said. "Get multiple pitches over for strikes and keep people off balance."
On offense, Ryan Haller was a top-of-the-order catalyst, twice whacking triples to start an inning, and eventually scoring both times.
"We were plugged in. We hustled and played hard today," Williams said.
Lansing, 3-2, hosts cross-town rival Leavenworth Monday. The teams have split their recent match ups, Leavenworth winning last year and Lansing prevailing in 2011.
    First pitch is 4 p.m.
