A report of a suspicious person led authorities to the scene of an injury accident Saturday in Leavenworth County, according to a report from the Sheriff's Office.
The accident was reported shortly after 6 a.m. Saturday. But it's believed the accident occurred around 2 a.m. Saturday on U.S. 24-40 north of Honey Creek.
Deputies initially were called to the Paradise mobile home park near Tonganoxie for the report of a suspicious person. Authorities made contact with the person, Vincent E. Hunter Jr., 22, Kansas City, Kan., according to the report.
Based on the conversion, authorities believe Hunter was the driver of the accident. And deputies went to the scene of the crash.
Undersheriff Jim Sherley said the passenger, Brandon T. Mills, 22, Kansas City, Kan., was still seat-belted in the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hunter was transported to the University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kan. Sherley said the driver's injuries were not extensive.
Sherley said blood was drawn from the driver to check for intoxication.
The undersheriff said it appears the vehicle, a 2000 Toyota Camry, had gone off the road, and the driver overcorrected. The car went of the road again, vaulted and overturned.
